Curodont Peptide Tooth Repair
Curodont is a gentle, drill-free way to treat a cavity at its earliest stage, before it turns into a hole. A liquid containing a self-assembling peptide called P11-4 is placed on the weakened spot of enamel, where it soaks in and helps the tooth rebuild its own mineral from the inside. There is no drilling and no numbing shot, and the treatment takes only a few minutes. At Sacramento Holistic Dentist in Carmichael, Curodont peptide repair is $100 per tooth.
Why Patients Choose Peptide Repair
What Is Curodont and How Does It Work?
Curodont is made by vVARDIS, a Swiss dental company. Its active technology is P11-4, a short peptide built from naturally occurring amino acids.
An early cavity starts below the surface. Acids from plaque bacteria pull minerals out of the enamel, leaving a porous, weakened zone underneath a surface that is still intact. Dentists often call this a white spot lesion or a “watch area.” When Curodont is applied, the liquid is drawn deep into those tiny pores. Inside the lesion, the peptides link together into a fine three-dimensional scaffold, similar to the protein framework that guides enamel when teeth first develop. That scaffold attracts calcium and phosphate from your saliva, which form new hydroxyapatite crystals, the same mineral that makes up natural enamel.
This fits the biomimetic dentistry philosophy behind our practice: work with the tooth’s own biology and preserve as much natural structure as possible.
Is Peptide Repair Right for Your Tooth?
Curodont works only on early, non-cavitated lesions, meaning the enamel has weakened but has not broken down into a hole. It can be a good fit for:
- Chalky white spots on the enamel caused by early decay
- Early cavities between teeth that show up on X-rays before they can be seen
- Children and teens, including white spots that form around braces
- Adults who want to stop a small, early lesion without drilling
It is not the right treatment for a cavity that has already formed a hole, which needs to be cleaned out and filled. It also does not treat white spots that are not caused by decay, such as fluorosis or developmental enamel spots, and it is not a cosmetic whitening treatment. We will examine the area and tell you plainly which category your tooth falls into.
What to Expect at Your Visit
We examine the tooth and, when needed, take X-rays to confirm the spot is an early lesion with no hole. For areas between teeth, X-rays are often the only way to see it.
The tooth surface is cleaned and briefly conditioned so the liquid can enter the lesion. No drilling and no numbing are involved.
A few drops are placed on the spot. Over the next five minutes, the liquid soaks deep into the weakened enamel.
Avoid eating and drinking for 30 minutes, then go about your day as usual. Careful brushing and flossing of the treated area helps the repair hold.
Remineralization happens gradually over the following months. At your checkups we compare the area to confirm it has stopped growing or gotten smaller. If a spot is still active, it can be treated again.
What About Fluoride?
We want you to know exactly what goes on your teeth. The version of Curodont sold in the United States, Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus, contains a small amount of sodium fluoride (0.05%) along with the peptide, roughly one-fifth the fluoride concentration of a regular fluoride toothpaste. Only a few drops go on the treated spot. Our first choice for everyday remineralization is still hydroxyapatite, and we treat fluoride as a medicine to use where it clearly helps, such as a single, targeted application on an early cavity. If you would rather avoid fluoride completely, just tell us and we will go over fluoride-free options.
Peptide Repair, Hydroxyapatite, or a Filling?
We offer several ways to care for weakened enamel. The right one depends on how far the tooth has progressed:
Hydroxyapatite Remineralization
Coats the enamel surface with the same mineral teeth are made of. A natural, fluoride-free way to strengthen enamel, calm sensitivity, and lower cavity risk.
Curodont Peptide Repair
Soaks into an early lesion and helps it rebuild mineral from within, with the goal of stopping the cavity before it needs a filling. No drilling or numbing.
BPA-Free Filling
Once decay breaks through the enamel, the damaged area has to be cleaned out and restored. We use BPA-free ORMOCER, priced by number of surfaces.

Frequently Asked Questions
No. Curodont does not fill holes. It treats early cavities where the enamel surface is still intact by helping the weakened area remineralize. If a cavity has already broken through into a hole, a filling is needed.
No. There is no drilling and no injection. Most patients find it feels like a short cleaning, which makes it a good option for children and anxious patients.
Yes. Curodont is used for both children and adults, and the manufacturer reports no adverse events from its use in the United States since 2019. It can also be used around braces. For children under 6, the product label calls for a dentist’s guidance, so we decide case by case.
The US version, Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus, contains 0.05% sodium fluoride, roughly one-fifth the fluoride concentration of a regular fluoride toothpaste, and it is applied only to the treated spot. If you would rather avoid fluoride entirely, we can talk through fluoride-free options like hydroxyapatite treatment.
Remineralization is gradual and happens over the months after treatment. How quickly a spot improves depends on brushing, flossing, diet, and saliva. We check the area at your regular visits to confirm it has stopped growing or gotten smaller.
It often fades noticeably, but it may not disappear completely. The goal of Curodont is to stop and reverse early decay, not to whiten teeth.
In many cases a single application per spot is enough, as long as the area is kept clean at home. If a spot is still active at a follow-up visit, it can be treated again.
Curodont peptide repair is $100 per tooth. As with all treatment at our office, it starts with an exam to confirm the spot is a good candidate, and exam and X-ray fees are listed on our pricing page. Insurance coverage for this newer treatment varies by plan. There is a dedicated procedure code for it (D2991), and we accept PPO plans out of network, so we can help you check your benefits.
Yes. A 2023 review in the Journal of the American Dental Association pooled six clinical trials and found that the peptide likely helps early lesions stop progressing and shrink, calling it a promising treatment for early cavities. The authors also noted the trials had limitations and called for longer studies, which is one reason we follow every treated spot at your checkups.
No. Curodont is a liquid applied to the outside of a tooth to treat an early cavity. It is not an injection, a supplement, or the kind of peptide therapy advertised for healing or anti-aging.
